The main point from Kobo is control over your own device. The ability to use custom readers, which may offer more functionality (KOReader used to offer Goodreads functionality, but not anymore as Goodreads is no longer supplying new developer keys). Apparently this is also available for Kindle - good on Amazon! On a Kindle, you're stuck with whatever they offer. The ability to use custom fonts and dictionaries. I would imagine the process would be roughly the same if you'd use Calibre in both cases though (I'm lazy so I just drag-and-drop my books). You can sideload stuff on a Kindle, but they don't support EPUB so you must convert everything. The ability to sideload books, particularly in EPUB format (which is generally the standard for ebooks). In my opinion, Kobo's advantages over Kindle are:
#KOBO LIBRA H2O VS KINDLE OASIS ANDROID#
If you're not in the US, your only option is Kobo (or an Android e-ink tablet from Onyx or Likebook, which could just download the Libby app). OverDrive/Libby integration if you're in the United States. Kobo's reading statistics are okay, but I tend to end up using KOReader's because I don't feel that Kobo's is verbose enough.

Honestly, better reading statistics in general, as well as through Amazon FreeTime (parental controls).

There is direct Goodreads integration in the system. If you already buy most of your books from the Kindle app store then it feels like a bit of a no-brainer (you can remove DRM, but it can be a bit of an endeavour sometimes). The Amazon ecosystem is vastly superior to Kobo's, through Kindle Unlimited and Audible as well as just generally having more (and usually cheaper content, even though Kobo price matches). No Kobo models currently do (don't know about the Ellipsa, but that's in an entirely different price bracket and use case at 400 USD). It depends on your needs, but based on what you've said so far an Oasis (or really, any Amazon device) seems like it would be better for you:
